Come try it at our
The Powder Mill Barn contra dance is Usually the Third or Fourth Sunday of each Month, (See Calendar) October through May, from 7:00 - 10:00 PM. Live Music. Each dance taught quickly by Ralph Sweet or other guest callers.
What IS contra dancing? Walking patterns in time to music - dancing with many different partners with other couples, using easy square dance figures like circles, lines, stars, chains - but NO LESSONS REQUIRED! However, if you are bringing a larger group of new dancers, (say 5 couples or more), you could contact Ralph to request a beginner workshop starting around 6:30 PM. If not, you can just start dancing with the experienced dancers at 7:00 PM. We start with the easiest dances, and explain the moves early in the evening, and with the guidance of the "regulars", who are very kind to new people, you will be able to catch on and enjoy yourself.
Have fun the first time you come! You don't have to bring a partner! Learn by doing! Casual dress (best no high heels, though).
Come try it! You can find contra dancing throughout the USA including Alaska and Hawaii, Canada, and other countries.
